What Are Recovery Services and How Do I Request Them?

The office of the Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) has issued guidelines for special education recovery services, for interruption of educational services during the Covid-19 pandemic. If you are a parent, guardian or advocate of a youth aged 16+, click to watch a video presentation on recovery transition services, and view presentation slides, including options for students over 21.
You should direct your request to your student’s IEP case manager, and ask for an IEP meeting to discuss recovery services. Recovery services are to be provided to allow your child to achieve the progress on IEP goals they would have achieved had the interruption in services not occurred. They should be based on the student’s unique needs and according to an individualized decision by the IEP team. Recovery services should be provided outside the school day.
